Felice Varini: Optical Illusion
Felice Varini is a Swiss artist who was nominated for the 2000/2001 Marcel Duchamp Prize, known for his geometric perspective-localized paintings of rooms and other spaces, using projector-stencil techniques.

1. Varini creates these illusions by creating the illusion he wants to be seen, then putting the image where he wants it to be and then paints different parts and areas of the wall, pole or structure that he is using. But he uses many different structures in a distance, so that when u stand back the lines that he paints shows up as the pictures he wants to be seen.
ReplyDelete2. I think this is art, because it is a create way to use a perspective and it is very appealing to the eye. It includes many different art forms to create it. In the end the illusion creates a painting or a picture.

ReplyDelete1. First, he stands at his vantage point and sketches out his idea. Then, he continues to stand at his point, but he communicates with the painters via radio, telling them where to paint in order to complete the image from his perspective. Any mistakes are painted over.
2. While highly cool, shapes don't really qualify as art. Art has to show something. It's like Pollock and van Gogh. Van Gogh's has substance. Pollock's doesn't.

1. I think Varini creates these illusions by first having the full image in his head and then working backwards with the different places he needs to paint the certain color. It is pretty interesting how he pin points the precise angles and such.
ReplyDelete2. I think it is art because it has a unique medium and obviously he has a passion for creating this type of art. He took the time and effort to create these pieces and probably had to get some rights signed off for his creations.

a. they make road safety chalk drawings that depict a child standing in the road. When viewed head on they look 3d. The illusion is created by drawing a stretched out image of a child on the road.

1. I think Varini creates these ellusions by using different angles. He could create a sketch from far away at a special angle, and then apply to the real situation.

a. He paints designs onto surfaces and creates an effect very similar to Varini's. His method is also very similar. He takes a picture after he finishes painting, revealing a flat design.

1.I think he takes a picture of the space from a very precise angle and then draws his shape on top of that picture. Then I think he zooms in on each particular spot and maps out exactly what he needs to paint.

ReplyDelete1. To create these illusions I think he uses the right camera angles, and paints on things, but makes them line up so it looks like its in front. Its like using portions and angles.
