Assignment #20: Reflecting on Environmental Art

In the theme of our upcoming “Sacred Sky, Sacred Earth” event, take some time to study some well-known environmental artists and reflect on your own thoughts about this kind of art.
Research one of the following environmental artists:
Andy Goldsworthy (“Rivers and Tides”)
Nancy Holt (Sun Tunnels) and Robert Smithson (Earthworks and Photoworks)
Richard Long (Textworks, Sculptures)

Choose one on which to focus your answers to the following questions:

1. Describe your definition on “environmental art.”
2. Describe the style of the chosen artist in five words. Make sure to include the name of the artist chosen.
3. In general, what might an environmental artist be exploring.
4. In general, how do you think an audience should approach an environmental art experience when they see/hear/interact with it?

This blog assignment is worth 10 points and is due no later than Friday, March 4.

Assignment #19 Do a Tutorial from Last Week's Post

Find a tutorial that ANOTHER student posted last week and DO the tutorial.
There are two parts:
A. Comment (post) on the following questions.
B. Do the tutorial and turn into server.


A. For this blog assignment comment (post) on the following:
1. Your name.
2. The name of the student who's tutorial you chose.
3. The name and brief description of the tutorial you chose to do.
4. Why you chose this tutorial.
5. What are the strengths of the way the tutorial teaches the skills?
6.  What are the weaknesses of the way the tutorial teaches the skills?



B. For this blog assignment do the following:
Do the chosen tutorial and put in a folder with your name on it on the server like so:

          -DM LAB folder
               -Assign19 Tutorial Folder
                     -Your named folder
                          -Your tutorial inside your named folder

Assignment #18: Find an Online Tutorial

Research and find an art-based, online tutorial for a skill within or outside of your strand (animation, video, lighting, composition, editing, drawing, etc). Watch the tutorial and POST THE LINK in your response.

Answer the following questions:
1. Describe the tutorial and what it’s teaching.
2. Describe a project that could utilize/showcase the skills learned in this tutorial.
3. What are the strengths of the way the tutorial teaches the skills?
4. What are the weaknesses of the way the tutorial teaches the skills?

Assignment #17 Sacred Sky, Sacred Earth Ideas

We will be involved in the upcoming Sacred Sky Sacred Earth on March 20, 2011 on Coronado Beach. All of CoSA will be involved and we want YOUR ideas on how we as the Digital Media & Filmmaking Department can be involved and how your individual strand can be involved. We want awesome ideas, out of the box suggestions and creative solutions to how your idea can become a reality!
